How often should you get your HVAC serviced?
March 17, 2025Maintaining your Air Conditioning Systems is essential to ensure safe and efficient operation. A well-maintained system will also have a longer lifespan due to optimal running conditions being maintained. You can think about it in the same way as your car, a regular service visit keeps everything running smoothly and prevents those little niggles from developing into something more.
At Inergy Group, this month’s blog offers advice to how often you should get your AC unit serviced. For more information, call us on 01204 929999.

How often should you get your AC Unit serviced?
At Inergy Group, we recommend an annual service at standard but some of our customers are on more regular service intervals depending on the intensity of the system use, and of course it’s criticality to the business operations.
For example, if your business requires a defined temperature range for operations and this needs to be maintained consistently, a more regular service interval will help contribute to this target.
How can regular HVAC Maintenance Save Money?
Regular maintenance can save you money because a routine service visit from one of engineers is scheduled work, completed in normal business hours at a convenient time for everyone. In contrast, a breakdown call when the system has already failed may be out-of-hours and may be an emergency or urgent situation.
Urgent call-outs such as this can often be more costly and a system failure may indicate that a more costly part may need to be ordered and replaced – again costing more money compared to the routine part replacements.

What does the Service Engineer do at an AC Service visit?
At Inergy Group we take pride in delivering a comprehensive planned maintenance service visit for our clients. Here is an insight into our Service Checklist to give you peace-of-mind:
Inergy Group 5 Point Service Checklist for AC:
1. Inspection
- Thermostat: Ensure it’s working and calibrated correctly
- Wiring and Connections: Check for any loose connections, signs of wear and tear, or damage
- Condenser and Evaporator coils: Check for any build-up of dirt or dust
- Ductwork: Inspect for leaks, damage, or blockages
2. Cleaning
- Air filters: Ideally these should be cleaned every 1-3 months and may need replacing at the annual service visit
- Condenser and Evaporator coils: Remove any dirt or dust
- Condensate drain: This must be cleaned of any debris to prevent water damage or leaks from the unit
3. Testing
- System Controls: The start cycle should be initiated to confirm proper operation and shut-off sequencing
- Refrigerant Levels: Check to see these are at the correct levels specified by the unit manufacturer
- Airflow Test: Measure and adjust airflow for proper distribution
- Motor Performance: The motors should be tested for any wear and tear and to confirm efficient operation
4. Lubrication
- Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply lubrication to motors, bearings, and other moving components as indicated
5. Adjustments
- Adjust thermostat settings: Ensure optimal temperature settings are saved for energy efficiency
- Adjust Blower Components: Tighten loose parts and adjust blower settings for proper airflow delivery
The results of the above checklist are documented in a comprehensive service report which is signed by your engineer. Routine part replacements, such as filters are completed. Recommended interventions are also suggested as needed.
Depending on your business needs, a routine electrical safety test can also be carried out at the same time as the service visit. Further delivering on your peace-of-mind and health and safety compliance.
At Inergy Group we can support you with your AC Service requirements and can make this task a breeze. Regular maintenance checks from our professional engineers will maintain your AC unit’s efficiency, prevent unexpected breakdowns, and prolong its lifespan. In addition, if any major issues are found during this service, we can advise on the next steps needed to get you up-and-running safely.
