Local Extraction and Ventilation for a Manufacturer
Our Clients Goal
“Improve the working environment for the staff and ensure clean air quality.”
Our client, a building product manufacturer, wanted to transform their working environment and
improve the air quality for their team. The production process in the main facility generates air particulates, resulting in poor-quality air and a high heat output.
Their large-scale manufacturing facility in the North West of England produces high-performance building products for joint sealing, bonding & insulation, floor coating and roof sealing.
We are proud to be our client’s preferred partner, and as a result, we have already carried out several smaller projects on-site.
Air Quality Assessments for Data-Driven Solutions
To demonstrate confidence in our design solution, we supported the commissioning of independent air quality reports to be carried out before and after the project implementation. The assessments were carried out around the different shift patterns to fully capture the impact of the production on the environmental air quality. This ability to quantify the improvements is important for the client’s health and safety program and fully demonstrates the solution’s value.
Tailored Design Solution
Following an initial site survey, detailed measurements and calculations were completed to design a solution to solve the client’s problem.
The design team presented a detailed proposal and technical drawings to demonstrate the required work fully. A costed quote was included to make sure budget considerations were met. The image to the right is a sample of the technical design created for our client’s bespoke industrial ventilation system.
Dual Integrated HVAC Systems
This project needed a combination of 2 integrated systems –local extraction ventilation (LEV) and conventional ventilation to tackle the air quality and heat production.
LEV is an extract ventilation system that takes dust, mists, gases, vapour or fumes out of the air so they can’t inhaled. Properly designed LEV will:
- Collect the air that contains the contaminants
- Make sure they are contained and taken away from individuals
- Clean the air (if necessary) and get rid of the contaminants safely
The large-scale production facility required conventional mechanical ventilation with roof-mounted extract fans. In industrial spaces, mechanical ventilation is used to supply clean, fresh, uncontaminated air in sufficient quantities to dilute odours, fumes and contaminants which may be present.
Supporting Future Health and Safety Requirements
Before the project, the client identified the need for a risk management solution for installing the roof-mounted extract fans.
Thinking long-term, we recommended installing a Kee Line® Safety Lifeline System, pictured right, which the client will use for future projects and routine ventilation system maintenance activities.
Our IOSH-accredited engineers provided project-specific method statements & risk assessments, which were clear and easy to follow. A QA sign-off procedure was implemented by the main contractor, health & safety manager and all Inergy operatives, ensuring complete transparency over the document control, and ultimately, everyone signed up for a safe installation.
During the project, Inergy Group ensured that a high level of health and safety was maintained, protecting the integrity of the building, and supporting the client to continue their normal operations throughout the installation.
Successful Ventilation Installation
Our engineers were well equipped to successfully manage the ventilation system installation from start to finish, including design, build, installation and operation. Our dedicated team carried out numerous activities to ensure suitability on-site, including comprehensive structural and health and safety surveys and presented long-term project designs that would maximise value.
Following the project implementation of the new LEV, our client is extremely pleased with the result, which is pictured to the right.
The environment in the production facility is dramatically improved for both operational processes and worker conditions. This has had a tremendously positive impact on the workforce and those visiting the site.
