Ventilation is the process of introducing fresh air into indoor spaces while removing stale air. Mechanical ventilation is a system in a building that brings in "fresh" outdoor air and removes the "contaminated" indoor air.

There are four purposes of ventilation:

Ventilation is the process of introducing fresh air into indoor spaces while removing stale air. For example, mechanical ventilation is a system in a building that brings in “fresh” outdoor air and removes the “contaminated” indoor air. Our team at Inergy are experts in recommending and installing a broad range of industrial and commercial ventilation systems.

Ventilation System Installation

In a workplace, a ventilation system is used to control exposure to airborne contaminants. In addition, it is commonly used to remove impurities such as fumes, dust, and vapours to provide a healthy and safe working environment. Ventilation can be accomplished by natural means but is significantly more effective through mechanical tools (e.g. fans or blowers). In this case study we show how much we can improve the effectiveness of roof ventilation.

Commercial ventilation systems are similar in improving air quality and preventing space from becoming stale for either employees or customers. Still, there are other benefits that adequate ventilation can provide.

How Do Industrial Ventilation Systems Work?

Industrial ventilation systems are designed to move out (exhaust) and bring in (intake) a specific amount of air at a particular speed (velocity), which results in the removal of undesirable contaminants. While all ventilation systems follow the same basic principles, each system is explicitly designed to match the type of work and the rate of contaminant release at that workplace. Ventilation is considered an “engineering control” to remove or control contaminants released in indoor work environments. Therefore, it is one of the preferred ways to control employee exposure to air contaminants.

Industrial Ventilation Systems

General industrial ventilation reduces the concentration of air contaminants or controls the amount of heat that accumulates in hot industrial environments by mixing (diluting) the contaminated air with fresh, clean, uncontaminated air. This ventilation system is also known as dilution ventilation. Local exhaust ventilation captures contaminants at, or very near, the source and exhausts them outside.
